Justice InDeed is a community collaborative project that seeks to better understand and repair the harms done by racially restrictive covenants in Washtenaw County. We have uncovered more than 9,000 racially restrictive covenants in Washtenaw County, with the help of over 1,000 volunteers. These covenants shaped where people could live, excluding Black families and others from neighborhoods across the county. Please sign up for our mailing list below to be informed about the results of this effort and other next steps from Justice InDeed.
The legacy of racially restrictive covenants is still with us. We are inviting the community to learn about this history, see the map and tools we’ve created, and imagine what comes next for housing justice and repair.
