Project Participants Provide Update at Ann Arbor District Library Presentation

On November 9, several members of the Justice InDeed team presented on racially restrictive covenants at an event graciously hosted by the Ann Arbor District Library. Mike Steinberg, Claire Zimmerman, Joyce Hunter, Justin Schell, Susan Fleurant, and Bailey Sullivan presented on the history of covenants in Washtenaw County, the process of mapping the covenants, and race and arts in the built environment. This work is done in conjunction with a sister project called Black Washtenaw County, a University of Michigan funded research group that explores the history of racial segregation and inequality and African-American Community Formation in Washtenaw County.
